The latest one opened near the IT Park in Kozhikode at its 3000 sq ft facilities is the largest of Popees outlets, Shaju Thomas, Managing Director, Poppees Baby Care Products said

Popees, one of the leading children’s clothing brands with manufacturing units at Tiruvali in Malappuram district of Kerala, Bengaluru and Tirupur, launched five new outlets across Kerala in Kozhikode, Thiruvananthapuram, Adoor, Malappuram and Valanchery, taking the total number of Popees outlets to 42. The latest one opened near the IT Park in Kozhikode at its 3000 sq ft facilities is the largest of Popees outlets, Shaju Thomas, Managing Director, Poppees Baby Care Products said.

He also said the company targets to open at least 100 showrooms in FY2022-23. “Our first overseas showroom will be opened in London this month. Considering its global customers’ tastes, we would be stocking the most trendiest collections in our London showroom,” Shaju Thomas said. The company also plans to increase its footprint in the GCC countries this year.

In addition to expanding the retail network, this year, the company will add baby care products also to its product range. Baby diapers, baby powder, mother-baby floating soap and glycerin soap are few of the new products lined up for launching, which will hit the market in April-May 2022.

Mr. Thomas also said the retail expansion will be based on the franchisee model. With the post covid opening up of markets, he sees enormous potential for children’s clothing and baby care products. “Considering these, we have drawn up various big and small franchisee models with attractive return options in view of the sizes and characteristics of the locations,” he said.

In FY 2022-23, the company expects the sales to cross Rs.200 mark. “In 5 years, we aim to cross the Rs.1000 crore-mark,” Mr. Shaju Thomas added. “We also strive for a paradigm shift in the business model by strengthening our presence in the e-commerce space. The new omnichannel will be launched soon to give customers a different shopping experience,” he said. Popees has already got a growing presence in the world’s leading e-commerce platforms like Amazon, Flipkart and Ajio.

He said Popees is one of the very few clothing manufacturers in south India which sells its products in its own brand while most of the leading players in the segment here are working for foreign labels. “Since our beginning in 2005, we were confident of our quality, designs and marketing acumen which made us explore both the domestic and export markets with our own brand,” he added. The company also wants to increase its product range by adding toys and accessories in the coming years.

Currently, with three plants employing more than 2000 people with a capacity to produce 5 lakh garments every month, the company’s major focus is on children’s clothing but it also produces denim garments and woven fabrics garments and maternity wear for women.
