The employability of Indian engineers continues to be painfully low with more than 80% engineers unemployable for any job in the knowledge economy, revealed the National Employability Report Engineers, 2019

The engineering sector has been through a phase of being a popular career choice to that of a saturated market. While the number of engineers passing out every year increases, the lack of skills amongst the talent pool and increasing shift towards automation is disrupting the engineering ecosystem in India. According to the HRD Ministry, over 1.5 million students pass out of engineering courses every year. And yet, not all of them are guaranteed jobs. The employability of Indian engineers continues to be painfully low with more than 80% engineers unemployable for any job in the knowledge economy, revealed the National Employability Report Engineers, 2019.

Work ethics, attitude, communication skills, emotional intelligence and a whole host of other personal imputes are the ones that are crucial for deciding career success. But for some reason, the importance of these soft skills is often undervalued, and there is far less emphasis and training provided for them than the hard skills. These soft skills inspire high performance and enhance the workplace culture. An overlooked behaviour towards these skills is one of the major reasons why engineering graduates in India still lag on the employability front.
